Yesterday and today, the young Bluebirds took turns peeking out of the box. The parents have been very vocal today with soft murmurs almost as if to try and lure the chicks out.
One or the other adults will generally sit on a shepherd's hook that sits across from the box. They have chipped all day.
I have watched several times as one of the adults would go to the box and look in but not feed. Several times the adults might have an insect and tried to lure a chick out. Guess they are not quite ready. I expect within a day or two they will fledge.
It is wonderful to be able to observe the babies leaving the nest. What I enjoyed most was the communication and encouragement of the parents. Hope you are able to catch the young ones when they do leave.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, Paula. I love the second one with that little guys mouth wide open. I am missing the bluebirds this year. Hopefully, they will return.
