Rain, rain and more rain

What a messy day it has been....weather wise.  Rain gauge shows two inches so far.  I went down to my cousin's farm yesterday afternoon to retrieve the trail camera.  There had been lots of action near the corn field and we (nephew and I) hoped to get some good shots.

We parked some distance away and walked in hoping to come up on the fawn that has been hanging out in that area.  We did see the fawn but it ran off quickly.  As we got closer to the location, the fox that has been hanging out in the corn field popped out.

It seemed very curious about us and made no attempt to run.  It turned to watch us as we stood taking photographs.

Finally it turned and went back in the corn field.

Gray Fox

I took my nephew out for a bit this morning to try and find some old farm scenes to photograph for his entry in the State Fair this year.  We first went down to my Grandmother's old farm where a few of the old tractor sheds remain.  The old farm is getting on its last leg.  When we pulled up, I noticed some movement on top of the roof.  Was I surprised!  A fox was  up on top of the roof.  It sat up when we pulled up and sat and looked at us.  Eventually it climbed higher and disappeared down the roofline.

We pulled around in time to see it coming down a tree that had grown up beside the house.  Yes, Gray Foxes do climb.

Gray Fox

A Gray Fox was hunting among the blackberry brambles this morning.  Although it moved with great stealth, barely moving the brambles, you could watch the progression of its travels by the numerous sparrows flying up.  Hope it finally found something to eat.

It was a beautiful morning out with a bit of coolness in the shade or if you hit a spot where the wind was blowing but for two days before the winter solstice, you could not have asked for much nicer.  Tomorrow should be even better before the next cold front comes through.
