Warbler Surprise

From 1300-1400 today, the bird activity was just amazing.  I stood at the kitchen window with it open and just watched in amazement.  Sadly at that time, the sun had not yet made its appearance.  Late this afternoon it finally came out so I am hoping for an amazing day tomorrow.

The Hooded Warbler has come off and on most of the day.  I watched it around 1830 and was just sick it was too dark.  I tried with an ISO of 3200 but the shots looked horrible.  The best I got today was this one.  Still lots of fun to watch it.  At about this same time, an Ovenbird came in for a quick bath.  I hope it will return tomorrow.

The big surprise of the day was when the female Chestnut-sided Warbler showed up and another also came in beside her.  What a thrill!

Two female Summer Tanagers showed up at the same time too!  I wish they would have sat together but one was in the bath and the other waited her turn.  I really get a kick out of just how much they love the water.  The one in this photo just sat in the bath for the longest time.

Sure wish warblers would come to my bird bath. Don't see them at home unless I venture through the woods and then hard to find.

I adore that last photo of the young one with the feathers all puffed out - so cute!

Anxious to see what other birds show up in your backyard!

Great photos, Paula. You are VERY lucky. Is it that your yard is planted to attract birds or just the area that you live in? I am pretty sure that you have WAY more yard than I do but I do have a treeline behind the house and a field behind that. Still, we have other houses close by. They also seem to love your bird bath.

Hi Liz, Yes, they do seem to really love the bird bath. It is one of the best things I have ever done to attract the birds. I think they like the light moving water from the recirculating pump.

Hi Gladys, Thanks. I do feel very lucky to have such a wide variety of birds. I think they like that I keep the yard very natural. I don't get much sun to grow grass so natural seems to attract the birds....and other creatures too. Yes, they really do love the bath.
