Bluebird Squabbles

It has been an absolutely miserable day weather wise.  Dark gray skies and drizzle have ruled the day.  Bird activity coming to the suet feeder has been very high.  I think the word on fresh homemade suet has been spread among the birds.

The Eastern Bluebirds have dominated the feeder off and on all day.  When they come, they come in a group.  All six could not quite figure out to all get on at the same time so after some ate, they would fly to the top of the shepherds hook and wait.  Sometimes though, squabbles would break out on the feeder when one got to pushy.

Other visitors included:  Red-bellied Woodpecker, House Finches, Pine Warblers, White-breasted Nuthatches, Tufted Titmice, Chickadees, Downy Woodpeckers, Cardinals.

The squirrel has spent the day trying to make it past the baffle.  After many failed attempts, one finally made it up today.  More adjustments will be necessary.  It has been interesting to watch them try and figure out a method to get past it.  I get so aggravated with these little devils in fur!

The bluebirds are loving your homemade suet.

Squirrels are pretty ingenious. If you don't have trees around, check out my post today. That works very well. When I go through my photos and find the one that we had in Maine, I will post it too. Of course, the trick is to not have trees around for them to drop in on it.

Sorry to hear you've been under the weather Paula, seems it is hitting a lot of people. Feel better soon.

I didn't know bluebirds would eat suet. Homemade suet, hmm, maybe the recipe would be a good post, I would be interested. (hint, hint) :-)

Hey Gladys, I left a comment on your blog. I found one of the baffles for the post. I think I will go to the WB store today to get one. Glad you posted your photo. Hope you don't mind if I copy your design.

Thanks Liz, I do feel better. Looks like Gladys has the same thing too. I can definitely tell you that the Bluebirds love the suet. I will definitely post the recipe. Guarantee it will bring in the birds!

No problem on using the feeder design, Paula. This costs a bit more than the shepherds hooks but it works ever-so-much better.

I noticed that Liz asked about your suet recipe. I am also interested in that. Another thing that I have wondered about as I have watched your posts is your birdbath. I know that birds are really attracted to it. Can you show a photo of the whole thing some day? Please!!
