Brown-headed Nuthatch

House building is in full swing.  Despite an old nesting tree that is filled with holes, I guess there is a need for refreshing and enlarging some of the pre-used holes.  A pair of BH Nuthatches took turns working on a hole taking small bits out.  One would work for a while then they would trade off.

I suspect there is a network of holes.  One would go in and then come out a hole on the other side and repeat the steps.

Nice photos Paula! I'd not seen a brown headed nuthatch before. We have the red and white breasted ones though.

Thanks. Last winter when there was an irruption of the Red-breasted, I so enjoyed them. We normally do not have the red-breasted. The personality of the brown-headed reminds me of them. They are fun little birds to watch.

Aren't those just the cutest little birds, Paula. I don't think the ones around here are the brown headed ones. I think the ones I see here are the white breasted but not sure. I will need to really check them out the next time one is around.

Yes, they are little birds with big personalities. They can be quite comical to watch. I put a comment on your last post to check your 12 March post. Surprise!

Yep, it was a surprise that I had a brown-headed nuthatch on one of my photos.

There's the difference between a birder (you) and someone that likes birds (me). I'm learning slowly though. Thanks for the heads up.
